Ex-Alabama DT Jonathan Taylor pleads not guilty to domestic violence
Former Alabama defensive tackle Jonathan Taylor pleaded not guilty to domestic violence charges in Athens-Clarke County Superior Court, ESPN’s Mark Schlabach reports.
Taylor was arrested on charges of domestic violence third-degree assault and domestic violence third-degree criminal mischief. Alabama coach Nick Saban dismissed Taylor from the team the day after his arrest.
His accuser recanted her complaint against Taylor and was also arrested. She went on to say her bruises were self-inflicted.
It is the second domestic violence arrest for Taylor in the past year after he was arrested for domestic violence in July 2014. Taylor was charged with felony assault and domestic battery after he allegedly struck his girlfriend with a closed fist and choked her. He was dismissed from the Georgia football team as a result of those charges, which are still pending.
Taylor was also one of four Georgia players arrested in March 2014 and charged with “theft by deception” for cashing stipend checks twice.
Taylor had nine tackles and one sack in 10 games for Georgia in 2013. He enrolled at Alabama in January 2015 after playing last season at Copiah-Lincoln Community College in Wesson, Miss.
