Survey finds Ohioans prefer Cardale Jones as Buckeyes starter
A Public Policy Polling survey among Ohioians found that one-third of Ohio State Buckeyes fans believe sophomore Cardale Jones should be the the team's starting quarterback.
Jones won 33% of the public vote in the survey. The second-most popular choice among respondents, however, was not Braxton Miller or J.T. Barrett, but "not sure," reflecting some indecision among Buckeye Nation.
Miller received 23% of the vote while 14% of respondents chose Barrett. Intriguingly, for 4% of candidates, none of the three options at quarterback were satisfactory. Those respondents chose "someone else."
Jones, who recently commented that he feels like he has "two guys in front of him" in the quarterback competition, led Ohio State to an improbable 59–0 win over a favored Wisconsin in the Big Ten championship game. The game marked the freshman's first career start for the Buckeyes. He filled in for the injured J.T. Barrett, who himself had filled in earlier in the year for an injured Braxton Miller.

Fortunately for Ohio State the football program appears to be in popular and capable hands. Not surprisingly, 85% of those surveyed said they approved of the job Urban Meyer has done with the program during the team's national championship run. When asked to choose the best Ohio State football coach since the 1950s from among Earle Bruce, Woody Hayes, John Cooper, Jim Tressel and Meyer, however, 35% of respondents chose Hayes, while 30% chose Meyer.
Ohio State opens the 2015 college football season on Sept. 7 against Virginia Tech.
