Weekly NET: Cincinnati Slips Outside of Top-70 With Latest Loss to Houston

The Bearcats can't afford many more losses if they want to earn an at-large NCAA tournament bid.

CINCINNATI — The Bearcats men's basketball team played one game last week, and the 80-58 loss to Houston didn't do them any favors in the NET Rankings.

Cincinnati is down six spots compared to last week's check-in and now sits at No. 72 in the NET rankings. Wes Miller's team got throttled from start to finish on Sunday at home against the Cougars, who stayed put at No. 2 in the rankings.

The blowout loss to Houston leaves very few paths open for Cincinnati to earn an at-large NCAA Tournament bid. UC has nine games remaining and likely needs to win at least seven of them to have any chance of an at-large bid. Kiss those hopes goodbye if they lose more than one game against Memphis, Houston, Wichita State, or SMU.

Those are the only Q1/Q2 opportunities remaining on the Bearcats' schedule and they need a W next to all of those results.

SMU is currently the second-best AAC team in the NET Rankings, checking in at No. 59. Memphis is right behind them at No. 60, and Wichita State is one spot ahead of Cincinnati at No. 71.

The Bearcats only played one game last week, but they are in for a torrid stretch over the next two. Cincinnati plays six games between now and Feb. 23, starting with Wednesday's meeting against South Florida.
