College Coaching Agent: 'I'd Go Fickell' For Best College HC Other Than Nick Saban
CINCINNATI — The Athletic unveiled its 2022 college football coaching tiers and Luke Fickell is firmly in Tier 1B. Alabama head coach Nick Saban makes up a tier all his own, leaving Fickell in a group with eight Power Five coaches to round out the top 10 head coaches.
One anonymous coaching agent thinks it's pretty clear where Fickell stands compared to those coaches.
"If I had to pick one, I’d go Fickell," The agent said when asked to give their best coach outside of Saban. "That guy got Cincinnati into the CFP.”
UC is riding high on a four-season stretch where they've gone 44-7 and finished inside the AP Top-10 twice during two of the campaigns. Fickell is unquestionably the best coach in the Group of Five right now, and it's hard to argue for anyone other than Dabo Swinney and Nick Saban when it comes to Power Five comparisons.
Barring injury disaster across the whole roster, Fickell (48-15) is a lock to pass Rick Minter (53-63) at some point this season as the winningest coach in program history.
