Mel Kiper Jr. Says Desmond Ridder 'has the Most to Prove' Among QBs at 2022 NFL Combine

Ridder is firmly the fifth-ranked quarterback on the consensus big board.

CINCINNATI — Quarterbacks are already in the swing of things at the 2022 NFL Combine, and there is one in particular who ESPN's Mel Kiper Jr. believes has the most to prove this week.

Desmond Ridder earned that distinction from the draft analyst. Ridder is firmly QB5 on the consensus big board. He is getting selected in the first round of 29.4% of mock drafts thus far.

"I think it's Desmond Ridder of Cincinnati," Kiper answered on SportsCenter. "The Bearcats, they had that game against Alabama. That semifinal playoff game, where if he would've played well, I think maybe he could've been QB1, QB2. Now, he's just battling to be QB4 or five and pushing him into the second round, not the first round. That inconsistent accuracy, against Alabama he was at 53%, Notre Dame 59%, Indiana 56%. Overall, at 65%, but that was against lesser competition."

Kiper—in a similar fashion to NFL Network's Daniel Jeremiah—doesn't quite trust Ridder's accuracy enough to put him up there with Kenny Pickett, Matt Corral, and Malik Willis.
