Weekly NET: Bearcats Clinging to Top-100 Status After 1-2 Week

UC has dropped five of its past eight games after going on its only three-game winning streak in conference play this season.

CINCINNATI — The Bearcats are heading in the wrong direction over the past eight games, and a 1-2 week didn't help their case in the NET rankings. After falling seven spots last week, Cincinnati fell another nine in the latest check. They now sit at No. 88, ranking fifth among AAC teams.

The Bearcats have dropped five of their past eight games since stomping Tulsa 90-69 to cement a three-game AAC win streak. That's the only time in conference play they've won consecutive games. Any chances at an at-large NCAA Tournament bid went out the window in Tuesday's loss to Memphis.

Across the rest of the AAC, Houston is still on top at No.4, a one-spot jump from last week. Memphis held serve at No. 44, while SMU dropped one spot to No. 46. Wichita State dropped two spots to No. 77, and UCF rounded out the top-100 AAC teams at No. 92, a four-spot drop compared to last week.

Cincinnati has one thing to focus on for the rest of conference play, and that's avoiding the first day of the AAC Tournament. To do that, they'll need plenty of help and likely have to go 3-1 at least down the stretch.

The Bearcats are in seventh place right now and are a half-game back of UCF, who they travel to play on Wednesday. Temple (fifth) and Tulane (fourth) are both two games ahead of Cincinnati and own the season tiebreaker. Cincinnati desperately needed to split with Temple to make that path to the top five more plausible.
