The Athletic Ranks UC/Pitt Among Top-10 Week 3 CFB Matchups
CINCINNATI — UC football takes on Pittsburgh Saturday night in a nice primetime outing on The CW.
The Athletic's Justin Williams dubbed the contest one of the 10 best games in college football this weekend as the winner looks to carry momentum into the rest of the season.
Williams ranked the matchup eighth overall behind other Big 12 bouts like No. 11 Texas/No. 3 Alabama (No. 1 matchup), and No. 13 Oregon/Texas Tech (No.3 matchup).
"An Old Big East showdown revives the River City Rivalry for the first time since 2012. Pitt leads the all-time series 8-4, but Cincinnati has won four of the past five, including the Bearcats’ memorable 45-44 win in 2009 to clinch a Big East championship," Williams wrote. "Sadly, the Paddlewheel Trophy is no longer up for grabs, but this is the first game airing as part of The CW’s new deal with the ACC. Both sides looked impressive in opening wins over FCS opponents and are led by journeyman transfer quarterbacks — Emory Jones for Cincinnati, who took home Big 12 offensive player of the week honors in Week 1, and Phil Jurkovec for Pitt."
Cincinnati is currently a seven-point underdog in the game. The largest spread this program's faced since losing to Alabama in the College Football Playoff.
