Dan Lanning Responds Bluntly to Boise State's Spencer Danielson Claim About Oregon

With fall camp now over and preparation for the Week 1 matchup in effect, the No. 2 Oregon Ducks set their targets at the Boise State Broncos of the new-look Pac-12 Conference.

Boise State coach Spencer Danielson, who was hired midway through the 2023 season, wasn't afraid to tell the media on Aug. 31 how he truly felt about the Oregon roster in 2026. Danielson believes the most talented team in the NCAA resides in the Pacific Northwest.

"Obviously, we're playing arguably the best team in the country," Danielson stated on Monday. "I know they're ranked No. 2. I'm not smart enough to know how everybody ranks those things, but when I look at their roster and how they've developed their team, I think they're the best team in the country."

On Monday, Oregon coach Dan Lanning was asked about Danielson's claim during his press conference:

“It’s way too early to say that," Lanning said.

Danielson has the utmost respect for what he has built in Eugene, Oregon.

"Hats off to Dan Lanning," Danielson continued. "I don't know him super well, but I have a ton of respect for him. We've talked a couple of times. I have a ton of respect for him as a head coach, as a defensive coach, and just what he's been able to do at Oregon over his time there. It's very, very impressive how they've been able to win at a high level consistently."

Per FanDuel, the Ducks are the runner-up pick to win the Big Ten Conference at +260. The Ohio State Buckeyes are the favorite at +185. As for winning the College Football Playoff, Oregon has the fourth-best odds at +750, and Ohio State holds the top odds at +550.

Oregon's Offense Stands Out the Most to Danielson

Led by redshirt junior quarterback Dante Moore, last season's group had the No. 16-ranked total offense at 452.2 yards per game and tied for the No. 10-ranked scoring offense at 36.9 points per game. Danielson realizes that as long as he's on the field, his defense is in for an extreme challenge.

"You’re always going to have one of those games that is outside your weight class," Danielson said about the Ducks. "But you know what, you don’t have to beat them 10 times; you have to find a way to beat them once, right?"

“They’ve got a great offensive front. They will establish a run game," he continued. "I think when people look at Oregon, they think Dante Moore and all the skill at receiver. But don’t get it twisted. They will run the football, and they will do it at a very, very high level.”

As for both team's depth charts, neither schools will release them to the general public.

Boise State at Oregon Odds

According to FanDuel, Oregon is the favorite in their Week 1 matchup against Boise State at -24.5. The moneyline for the Ducks is at -4000 and +1500 for the Broncos. The over/under is set at 51.5.

The last time these two West Coast opponents met in the 2024 season, Oregon beat Boise State at Autzen Stadium on Sept. 7, 37-34. The Broncos lead the all-time series over the Ducks 1-3, dating back to 2008.
