Recent Reports Indicate Former Tennessee Football Star James Pearce Jr. Could Face a Lengthy Suspension

The Tennessee Volunteers have had a plethora of different players in the headlines when it comes to the NFL, but this go-around the news doesn't seem to be good. That being said, a former player could be facing a massive suspension.

That player is James Pearce Jr., who Josh Kendall from The Athletic believes could be facing a minimum of at least eight games.

James Pearce Jr. Could Face a Lengthy Suspension

“I’m worried many Falcons fans aren’t prepared for the length of suspension James Pearce Jr. is going to get,” Kendall said. “I would expect the league to announce his punishment under the personal conduct policy before rosters are trimmed at the end of this month. It’s going to be at least eight games, in my opinion. Based on the league’s previous rulings in similar situations and the details of Pearce’s February arrest and subsequent three felony charges, I wouldn’t be shocked if it was more.”

The suspension would come after Pearce was reportedly arrested for an alleged altercation with someone who was later identified as Rickea Jackson, a former Tennessee Lady Vols basketball player. The reported incident stated that Pearce allegedly struck Jackson with a car before later striking an officer and attempting to flee.

The Falcons Face The Biggest Blow in the Situation

While it doesn't seem that Pearce will face any future jail time, a suspension is nearly certain. The question is "How much?" At this time, it seems reasonable that the NFL Star will see a multi-game suspension, which would be a major blow for the Atlanta Falcons, who traded for the former Vols star during the 2025 first round. This was such a massive trade that the Falcons didn't even own their first-round selection in the 2026 draft.

Fellow first-round selection Jalon Walker recently went down with an injury, which was later determined to be a long-term situation that will abruptly end his season before it even begins. This means that the Falcons will need the former Vol star more than ever.

During his rookie season, Pearce finished with 10.5 sacks on the season and was a competitor for the rookie of the year award on the defensive side of the ball. His 10.5 sacks were good enough to tie him for 13th among players in the sack leaderboard.

While this was a massive season, it didn't come as a shock to many Tennessee fans, as Pearce was the star of the Vols' defense for two seasons. In those two seasons, Pearce finished with a total of 17 sacks.

When he returns to the Falcons, assuming that he takes on a suspension, he will likely take on a starter role with the team yet again.
