Tyler Firtel

Tyler Firtel is a sophomore Journalism major at the University of Texas at Austin. He has been writing for Texas Longhorns on SI since May 2025. Firtel also writes for The Daily Texan, currently serving as a senior sports reporter on the women’s basketball beat. Firtel is from Los Angeles, CA, splitting his professional sports fandom between the LA and San Diego teams.

Jabbar Juluke was hired as the Texas Longhorns' new running backs coach, replacing Chad Scott. Juluke comes from the Florida Gators, where he coached and recruited star running back Jadan Baugh, who could definitely be a name to watch as the portal opens.

The Texas Longhorns have signed a wide majority of their 2026 recruiting class on Wednesday, as the early national signing day window opens. Signees include Dia Bell, Tyler Atkinson, Richard Wesley, Jermaine Bishop, Samari Matthews and Derrek Cooper.

The Texas Longhorns defeated the Texas A&M Aggies, 27-17, behind a brand of complementary football in the second half that pleased the crowd in Darrell K Royal-Texas Memorial Stadium. The Longhorns outscored its Lone Star Rivals 24-7 in the second half.

The Texas Longhorns defeated the Arkansas Razorbacks in dominant fashion, dropping 50 points against a Southeastern Conference opponent for the first time. Quarterback Arch Manning recorded a new career high in passing yards and converted six touchdowns.
