UCLA Basketball: Elite 2023 Recruit Ditches Bruins For Transfer Portal

Freshman UCLA combo guard Jan Vide, considered a four-star recruit out of Slovenia last summer and ranked by 247Sports as the No. 68-best prospect among his class, is moving on from the Bruins.

Per David Woods of Bruin Report Online, the 6'6" guard has entered the NCAA's transfer portal. He barely played for Mick Cronin for much of the year, but he did round into form, somewhat, later into the season. Across 24 contests last year as a fringe rotation player, Vide averaged 1.9 points on 38% shooting from the floor, 0.8 rebounds and 0.5 assists across just 7.3 minutes a night.

In his final game, a 68-66 defeat to the Oregon Ducks in the quarterfinal round of the Pac-12 Tournament, he suited up for 25 minutes, although his numbers remained modest (four points on 2-of-6 shooting from the field and two rebounds).

Fellow European freshman guard Ilan Fibleuil has also entered the transfer portal this week, as has redshirt sophomore guard Will McClendon.

That said, the Bruins have been able to supplement these absences already with two fresh pieces. UCLA has picked up ex-USC wing Kobe Johnson and ex-Louisville guard Skyy Clark.

According to Woods, these changes will enable the Bruins to have two open scholarships available.

Per Woods, the Bruins have honed in on LMU guard Dominick Harris to address their shooting woes from last season and could strive to shore up its frontcourt with a fresh power forward addition and a center, provided that Adem Bona declares for the draft.
