Can anyone stop Nyjah Huston? The 19-year-old notched another win in the 2014 SLS World Tour in Los Angeles on Sunday, after battling through an injury and the steep competition. After a serious crash in practice on Saturday, Huston said he hurt his leg and wrist in the fall and was in pain at the start of the contest, but he managed to continue to skate and win the final round.
The field was shocked to see 2013 SLS Super Crown World Champion Chris Cole fail to advance to the finals. With Cole out, Huston will enter the Street League Skateboarding Super Crown World Championship in New Jersey next month as the leader of the pack, following his most recent win and previous victories at the SLS Chicago stop and the SLS Pro Open last month.
This win felt like no other! I owe this one to all my friends right here for keeping me so psyched. Love ou guys pic.twitter.com/hdqgpcUQL3— Nyjah Huston (@Nyjah_Huston) July 28, 2014
The conclusion of the Tour and the final quest for the largest prize in skate history—$1 million—will kick off at the Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey on August 24. The Super Crown qualifiers include Huston and seven others: Luan Oliveira, Torey Pudwill, Shane O’Neill, Paul Rodriguez, Chaz Ortiz, Matt Berger and Ishod Wair.
