The participants will need to keep their lips locked for more than 50 hours, 25 minutes and one second to break the record set by a male gay couple last year.
A total of nine couples are taking part in this year's contest, which began Tuesday.
Couples are not permitted bathroom breaks for the first three hours. After three hours, they must go to the bathroom on a specially made toilets (while escorted by a referee) and keep their lips locked throughout.
The oldest couple are aged 74 and 72 years old, having been married for 50 years.
The winning couple receives a purse of 100,000 baht ($3,363.08) in cash and a diamond ring worth 200,000 baht ($6,726.24).
