On closer inspection the item is actually the glove Rivers wears on his non-throwing hand during a game, but that did not stop the internet from running with the bird narrative.

Aside from the fact that it would be very mean to punch a bird, people seem to be failing to take into account that it would be almost impossibe to succeed in punching a bird mid-flight.
