The California League and the Carolina League are going to stage the coolest home run derby ever this June.

The two High A leagues host a joint All-Star Game and they’re adding a unique twist for this year’s home run derby. Rather than having the derby at the home park of the team hosting the game, they’ll have prospects launch dingers off the flight deck of an aircraft carrier

The contest will take place on the USS Midway in San Diego Bay and balls will be retrieved by volunteers on jet skis, stand-up paddleboards and kayaks.

The MLB All-Star Game is also in San Diego this season. Is it too late to tweak the home run derby plans?
