Baltimore Orioles' Rookie Puts Together Historic Night in Win vs. Red Sox

The Baltimore Orioles came from behind yet again to beat the Boston Red Sox on Thursday night at Fenway Park, and Colton Cowser put together a historic night to drive the win.

The Baltimore Orioles came from behind yet again on Thursday night to beat the Boston Red Sox, 9-4, at Fenway Park in 10 innings.

The O's trailed 2-0 at one point and then trailed 2-1 in the eighth inning when they benefited from some shotty Red Sox defense to take a 3-2 lead.

After Boston tied the game at 3-3 in the bottom of the eighth, the Orioles exploded for six runs in the top of the 10th, punctuated by a three-run homer from rookie Colton Cowser.

Cowswer did damage all night long, going 3-for-5 with two homers, four RBI and two runs scored. He's now hitting .458 in limited action this season.

His stellar performance not only broke the hearts of Red Sox fans who braved the rain to stay at the game, it also made plenty of team and baseball history.

Per Sarah Langs of MLB.com:

Colton Cowser had 10 RBI in this series

only 6 players in Orioles/Browns history have had MORE in a 3-game series [rbi official since 1920]

And this...

hit 1st 2 career MLB HR in same game, Orioles/Browns history:

4/11/24 Colton Cowser
8/30/20 Ryan Mountcastle
8/10/12 Manny Machado
8/21/10 Josh Bell
9/25/73 Jim Fuller
4/17/65 Curt Blefary
5/2/62 Boog Powell
9/14/51 Bob Nieman
5/23/50 Owen Friend
4/23/50 Ken Wood
9/16/40 Johnny Lucadello

And this, per @OptaSTATS:

The ' Colton Cowser in the series at Fenway:

10 RBI
3 doubles
2 home runs
1 walk
1 stolen base

No other MLB player has put up all of those numbers in a 3-game series (since RBI became an official stat in 1920).

While the focus was on O's rookie Jackson Holliday making his debut in this series, Cowser certainly stole the show.

Now, he'll see if he can replicate success this weekend as the Orioles take on the Milwaukee Brewers.
