3 GM's on the Hot Seat After Astros Fire Dana Brown

Could these three GM's be next?

The Houston Astros made some headlines on Monday morning when it was announced that they had fired general manager Dana Brown after parts of four seasons. Brown took over in 2023 after Houston fired James Click.

Brown is the latest GM to suffer this casualty, but he may not be the last. There are several teams in Major League Baseball that have underperformed and will likely need to make a change at some point.

Here are three general managers that could be next on the chopping block at the end of the season after the Astros chose to part ways with Brown.

Buster Posey

The San Francisco Giants made some solid moves before the 2026 season and looked like a team that might be ready to contend soon. However, Posey's moves have not panned out, and the Giants find themselves way out of postseason contention.

Strangely, he also fired former manager Bob Melvin, despite picking up his club option for 2026. He then proceeded to replace him with former Tennessee head coach Tony Vitello. It's safe to say that experiment didn't work out, and because of that, Posey may be on the chopping block soon.

Brian Cashman

The New York Yankees have struggled offensively since the loss of Aaron Judge. They also have a hole at the catcher position. New York added some pieces at the trade deadline, but they failed to trade for a catcher.

It's important to note that Cashman is in the final year of his contract. If the Yankees don't make a deep run in the playoffs this fall, perhaps they'll decide that it's time to go a different direction with a new GM.

David Stearns

The slow start the New York Mets got off to ultimately led to them dismissing manager Carlos Mendoza, who took them to the NLCS back in 2024. However, the roster construction by David Stearns was questionable at best.

Though Freddy Peralta, Jorge Polanco, Bo Bichette and Marcus Semien were added, the Mets have been playing Polanco and Bichette out of their original positions. The team also lost Edwin Diaz and Pete Alonso in the offseason.

New York is out of contention, and they were a seller at the trade deadline, so it may not be long before owner Steve Cohen decides to pull the plug on Stearns, considering the Mets have spent a lot and not made much progress in the last few years.
