Los Angeles Angels' Mike Trout Wears Caitlin Clark Iowa Jersey Ahead of Title Game

With Iowa and South Carolina about to face off in the NCAA women's basketball championship, Los Angeles Angels star Mike Trout made his allegiances known.

The Los Angeles Angels are set to take on the Boston Red Sox on Sunday, but even superstar outfielder Mike Trout recognizes the series finale isn't going to get top billing.

The Iowa Hawkeyes and South Carolina Gamecocks are meeting in the NCAA women's basketball championship game in Cleveland on Sunday. Tip-off is scheduled for 3 p.m. ET, while first pitch for the Angels-Red Sox game is slated for 4:07 p.m. ET.

So while Trout won't get to watch the women's title game, he has at least made his allegiances known.

Trout showed up to Angel Stadium wearing all black – a black hat, a black hoodie, black sweatpants and a black Caitlin Clark Iowa jersey. The three-time AL MVP shared photos of himself walking through the tunnel in the outfit, along with a caption that credited Clark for "changing the game."

Clark commented on the post, replying with three fire emojis.

Trout is arguably the most accomplished active player in baseball, and the same can be said for Clark in women's college basketball.

The 6-foot guard from Des Moines, Iowa, rewrote the record books this season, in addition to winning her second consecutive AP Player of the Year honor. She now owns the all-time scoring record – for men and women – with 3,921 points over the course of her four seasons with the Hawkeyes.

Clark is averaging 31.7 points, 9.0 assists, 7.3 rebounds and 1.5 steals per game this season with one game left on the slate.

Trout, on the other hand, is batting just .233 through the first eight games of the Angels' 2024 regular season. His three solo home runs have helped him boost his OPS to .836, though, and his WAR is sitting at 0.6.

For his career, Trout is a .300 hitter with 1,631 hits, 371 home runs, 943 RBI, 207 stolen bases, a .993 OPS and a 85.7 WAR. He has made 11 All-Star teams and won nine Silver Sluggers.

The 32-year-old outfielder is well on his way to Cooperstown, and the same could be said for Clark and Springfield, Massachusetts, depending on how she fares on Sunday and in her much-anticipated WNBA career.
