San Francisco Giants Set to Give Away Mickey Mouse Ears When Los Angeles Dodgers Visit in June

The Los Angeles Dodgers' 2020 World Series title is still coming under fire from their fierce rivals, the San Francisco Giants, who scheduled a pointed giveaway for this summer.

The rivalry between the San Francisco Giants and Los Angeles Dodgers is one of the fiercest in all of baseball, and the two teams got their beef started early in 2024.

As pointed out by Dodgers Nation, the Giants will be giving away 15,000 pairs of Mickey Mouse ear hats at Oracle Park on June 30. The Dodgers will be in town that night, leading many to speculate that the promotion was a shot at the team.

Los Angeles won the World Series in 2020, when the MLB regular season was shortened to 60 games and the postseason format was completely rejiggered due to COVID-19. The Fall Classic itself took place at a neutral site in Arlington, Texas, where the Dodgers defeated the Tampa Bay Rays in six games to capture their first championship in 32 years.

As a result of all the one-off factors, many have labeled the Dodgers' title as "Mickey Mouse." The term stems from the NBA Championship earlier that same year, when the Los Angeles Lakers won the title while in a COVID bubble at Walt Disney World in Orlando.

The Dodgers' postseason failures before and after that outlier 2020 run have led to many calling it a fluke, and the "Mickey Mouse" marker has been one of the most popular jokes used at the team's expense ever since.

The Giants' giveaway of Mickey Mouse ears is technically because June 30 is Disneyland Day at Oracle Park, but the layers of meaning are not lost on Dodgers haters or their fans.
