Josh Hokit Calls Out Ex-Two-Division UFC Champ Alex Pereira for Massive UFC Fight

UFC heavyweight contender Josh Hokit is itching for a quick turnaround following a TKO victory in June vs. Derrick Lewis at UFC Freedom 250.

Despite the controversy surrounding Hokit's now-viral post-fight antics during a record-breaking event from Washington, D.C., Hokit has since moved forward.

At present, he is chasing a potential UFC heavyweight title shot. In order to earn it, though, Hokit tweeted this past Friday that he'd be interested in facing former two-division champion Alex Pereira in what would be Pereira's second fight at heavyweight.

In a series of four tweets, Hokit strategically broke down why the Pereira fight makes sense for both of them, despite Pereira falling short in his interim heavyweight title fight vs. Cyril Gane on the same card in the night's co-headliner in front of President Donald J. Trump.

Hokit's first tweet outlined the elephant in the room: Tom Aspinall. Aspinall was promoted to UFC Heavyweight Champion last June after Jon Jones couldn't come to terms with the UFC for a would-be mega-fight vs. Aspinall. Instead, Aspinall fought Gane at UFC 321, as the fight ended in a No Contest after Aspinall couldn't continue due to eye pokes.

In summary, Hokit wants to build himself up by fighting Pereira in a No. 1 contender-type fight where the winner would presumably challenge Aspinall for the undisputed title (if he beats Gane).

But Hokit said a potential fight with Aspinall is easier said than done, all due to the friction between UFC CEO Dana White and Matchroom Boxing's Eddie Hearn.

In subsequent tweets, Hokit added that he has a condition for fighting Pereira: there needs to be UFC gold at stake, even if it's a "BMF" title opportunity rather than an interim title.

Nonetheless, though, Hokit suggests the stakes in a would-be fight vs. Pereira, alongside Gane, are simple.
