Many fighters don’t get another chance to fight in the UFC after being released, but Brad Katona is now back in the promotion after his hard fought unanimous decision win against Cody Gibson at UFC 292.

The fight was a bloodbath with both contestants wearing the damage on their face when things were all said and done. Each fighter had big moments, but it was Katona who controlled most of the action to become the first-ever two-time winner of The Ultimate Fighter.

“I honestly thought Cody might have faded just a touch, but he didn’t,” Katona said. “He was hungry man, he was hungry. He was a starved vet like me. Man, the road back, he earned his spot so all respect to Cody.”

Half of the roster on Ultimate Fighter Season 31 had fought in the UFC previously, but Katona was released after only four fights with a 2-2 record. The unfortunate thing for “Superman” was he had one loss against Merab Dvalishvili, one of the top fighters at bantamweight.

Gibson was one of the more unlikely fighters from the Ultimate Fighter to get a second chance after struggling to a 1-3 record before his release from the UFC in 2015. Like Katona, “The Renegade” had some unlucky matchups including his first bout in the UFC against eventual bantamweight champion Aljamain Sterling.

After departing the UFC, Katona joined Brave CF based in Bahrain where he was undefeated in four fights with the promotion. Now after fighting all over the world, Katona is back where he feels he belongs.

“It just feels right at home," Katona said. "This canvas is the best canvas out there and it feels awfully soft beneath my feet.”
