Thanks, But No Thanks

So Brian Griese will join Matt Cassel and Kerry Collins as new starters in Week 2. Sorry, we know Griese threw for almost 3,800 yards and 27 TDs when he played for the Bucs in 2004 and '05, but we're just not feeling it this time around. Griese didn't distinguish himself among the quarterbacking slop in Chicago. He hasn't thrown for more scores than interceptions in three years. And, to be honest, with the state of quarterbacking in the NFL now, if Griese were an answer more than a different set of questions, wouldn't he have been starting somewhere before now? Look, if you have Tarvaris Jackson, go get Griese now, but otherwise, we'll be waiting a week before we pull the trigger.
We Say Hello, You Say Goodbye
Marques Colston, we hardly knew ya. No, really. After one game the Saints' talented receiver is out for at least a month after undergoing surgery on his left thumb. What does this mean for the Saints' receiving corps? It may mean some Robert Meachem and a bit more Devery Henderson, but it will definitely mean a lot more David Patten and Jeremy Shockey, who put together the kind of game he enjoys most -- lots of targets.
There's A Bounce In Our Step
NBA training camps are less than a month away. Before your mind is cluttered with all of those meaningless preseason stats, it's time to start digging in for some unvarnished draft prep. While SI.com contributor RotoEvil.com is working up team-by-team previews and is feverishly compiling his own exhaustive draft guide, Give Me the Rock is one of the first out of the box, complete with positional rankings, depth charts and player analyses. Analysis like this doesn't come cheap, though. You'll have to shed the usual grunts through which fantasy owner normally communicate and ask nicely, at givemetherock@gmail.com. And, yes, this is us asking nicely.
To The Scavenger Go The Spoils
RotoAuthority is offering up a little fantasy advice for the future in serving up its Undrafted All-Star team of the present. The lesson: comb the waiver wire early and thoroughly. Sure, you'll get more than your fair share of Glendon Rusches, but you might just luck into a Cliff Lee, too.
A Friend In Need

With his .285 average, 16 homers and 33 steals, Matt Kemp has made himself into next year's hot draft pick, someone who offers a combination of average, power and speed. If anyone doesn't know that already, they will by next March, when any number of fantasy previews breathlessly extol his 2008 season. The bad news is that only one team can have Kemp. Where does that leave the rest of us? How about with Andre Ethier? The Hardball Times (http://www.hardballtimes.com/main/fantasy/article/either-ethier-or-kemp/) notes that since Manny Ramirez has arrived in L.A., Ethier is hitting better than .320 with eight homers in August and September. Shhh! Don't tell anybody. Ethier will just be our little, er, big, secret.
The Best Player You've Never Hear Of
Ever wonder why the Broncos churn out 1,000-yard rusher after 1,000-yard rusher, only to see most of them struggle once they leave Denver. Perhaps we should all be paying a little more attention to Tom Nalen, the Broncos' center and, according to Cold Hard Football Facts, the most underrated player in the game. If Week 1 was any indication, Nalen may alos have a similar effect for QB Jay Cutler.

Hold on a second, we're not the only ones catching fantasy hoops fever early. RotoExperts has an early look at potential sleepers and some possible busts for the coming season. And here I was all set to tab Thaddeus Young probably a round or three too early.
