A Texas high school football player died after collapsing on the sideline.
Alto High School (Texas) football player Cam’ron Matthews died Saturday after collapsing on the sideline during a game, the school has confirmed.
Matthews, a junior, complained of dizziness after a first-half play and went to the sideline where he suffered an aneurysm, according to NBC News. Matthews was airlifted to a hospital in Tyler, Texas where he was pronounced dead.
The Alto Independent School District released this statement late Saturday:
“Cam’ron Matthews, passed away Saturday, October 17th. He was a junior and a member of the Yellow Jacket Varsity Football team. Please keep the Matthews family, our school and community in your prayers. He touched many hearts and will be deeply missed.”
Matthews is the sixth high school football player to die since early September. A GoFundMe page has been set up for Matthews’s family.
