Video: Brawl Spills Into Stands After Punches Thrown During High School Basketball Tournament

These two teams had to forfeit their remaining games in the Redbird Tip-Off Classic.

It was an ugly scene at a high school basketball tournament in Illinois on Friday, Nov. 23 when a fight leaked into the stands.

A contest between Alton and Riverview Gardens was halted in the third quarter when players partook in a benches-clearing brawl, according to Paul Halfacre of stltoday.com. The game, which was part of the Redbird Tip-Off Classic, took place at Alton High School in Illinois.

The fight broke out during the third quarter with Alton leading 64-43. The fight is started when a player on Riverview Gardens threw a cheap shot at an Alton player. As players tussled with eachother on the court, the action spilled into the Alton student-section, according to Halfacre.

As the teams were fighting, a referee was trampled en route to the Alton student section.

In the end, the teams forfeited that game and the following games they had scheduled for Saturday. Each squad took two losses. The remaining games in the Redbird Tip-Off Classic were also canceled. Once all investigations into the incident are completed, there could be additional punishments.
