Cameron Boozer, Son of Carlos Boozer, Wins National Player of the Year Award

Cameron Boozer, the son of former NBA All-Star Carlos Boozer, was named Gatorade‘s National Boys Basketball Player of the Year on Wednesday. The award is one of the most prestigious high school basketball awards in the country and is given to a player who demonstrates excellence on the court and in the classroom.

Past winners of the award include Jayson Tatum, Karl-Anthony Towns, Kevin Love, Kobe Bryant and LeBron James. Love surprised Boozer and his family, including his father, with the award in the gym of Christopher Columbus High School in South Florida. 

“I was definitely surprised,” Boozer told Yahoo Sports. “We were told we were getting measured for our [state championship] rings, and then Kevin Love just walked in with the trophy, so the whole thing was kind of crazy.”

Boozer, 15, is just a sophomore and is considered one of the top recruits in the 2025 class. He, alongside his twin brother Cayden, went 26–4 and won the Class 7A state championship this past season. He averaged 21.1 points, 11.2 rebounds, 4.2 assists and 2 blocks per game while also maintaining a weighted 4.81 GPA, per a release. 

He has a long way to go, but it’s hard to imagine a basketball career starting off better than this.
