Michigan High Schooler Had the Coolest Behind-the-Back Interception in State Title Game

A high school football player in Michigan made one of the best catches you’ll ever see at any level on Sunday night. 

In the first quarter of the Michigan Division 1 state championship game at Ford Field, Adrian Walker Jr. of Belleville High School came down with a stunning pick off of Southfield A&T quarterback Isaiah Marshall. 

Marshall attempted to find a receiver deep down the field but Walker read the play perfectly and leaped to deflect the pass. As he landed back on the ground, Walker threw his hands behind him and pinned the fluttering ball against his back for an interception. 

Walker’s unreal play led to Belleville’s first points of the night, but his team ultimately lost the game. Led by Marshall, a Kansas commit, Southfield pulled off an upset to win to win its first state title. Belleville, the two-time defending Michigan state champ, had won 38 games in a row.

For Marshall, the acrobatic interception was a turning point. 

“As soon as I threw the pick, I knew what I had to do differently,” Marshall said after the game. “I just wasn’t thinking about that last play. As soon as I threw the pick, I just thought about it on the bench, then as soon as I came out, it wasn’t on my mind at all. I just knew I had to go down the field and score.”
