Down 17-14 early in the second quarter on Friday, the Los Alamitos football team didn't panic, it simply went to work in a resounding 56-31 CIF Southern Section Division 2 opening round win over Upland.
USC-bound safety Isaiah Rubin intercepted Noah Sandoval twice, the first that he rturned 65 yards for a touchdowns to put the Griffins up 49-24 early in the fourth.
On the ensuing kickoff, Jackson Bennett picked up a fumble and scooted 25 yards for another score and just like that, this game was over. Los Alamitos improved to 9-2 and will play next week in the quarterfinals against Serra-Gardena, a 48-14 first-round winner over Bishop Amat.

According to Steve Dulas of the Press-Telegram, Alonzo Esparaza passed for 188 yards and two scores, one 21 yards to Allen Wimberly and the other a 47-yard touchdown to Carson Clark.
The one to Clark completed a two-play, 90-yard drive which included a 43-yarder completion to Hayden Eligon. Another big special teams' play, a blocked punt, set up an 8-yard TD run by Lenny Ibara.
Upland, which finished 8-3, came out strong behind the running of Arturo Alonso, who rushed for 155 of his 165 in the first half. Sandoval also threw for 208 yards and touchdowns to Justin Benson (17 yards) and Luke Luevano (35 yards).
