Profiles in Courage

Profiles in Courage
Stephen Bruggeman, 47, Lennox, SD, Coast Guard

Every day, brave men and women put themselves in harm's way as they protect and serve in the finest tradition as members of our armed forces. Many of them come back from serving our country with injuries and traumas ranging from loss of limb to post traumatic stress disorder. The National Veterans Summer Sports Clinic promotes rehabilitation by teaching sporting activities to these veterans."As Americans, we have a covenant to care for those who have served our nation with honor," said Secretary of Veterans Affairs Eric K. Shinseki. "VA is proud to fulfill this covenant through events such as the Summer Sports Clinic, which gives injured Veterans an opportunity to rediscover their potential and redefine their capabilities."SI presents "Profiles in Courage."
