Team USA at the World Kendo Championships

Kendo is a modern Japanese martial art, which descended from swordsmanship and uses bamboo swords and protective armour. The World Kendo Championships (WKC) are an international kendo competition contested by the member nations of the International Kendo Federation (FIK). The championships have been held every three years since their inception in 1970. The hosting of the WKC usually rotates in order through the three FIK administrative regions of Asia, the Americas and Europe. The competition is divided into four divisions: Men's Team, Women's Team, Men's Individual, Women's Individual. Team matches are individual between five members from each team which change sequentially at the end of each round. Japan has continually dominated the sport with South Korea typically 2nd, and 2015 was no exception. Both the USA Men's and Women's Teams finished in 3rd place at the 16th WKC in Tokyo.
