Ravens running back Bernard Pierce has been fully cleared to begin training camp after undergoing offseason rotator cuff surgery, Aaron Wilson of The Baltimore Sun reported Tuesday night.

The news is particularly relevant because he will likely be Baltimore's early-down back; the team will, for all intents and purposes, be without three-time Pro Bowl running back Ray Rice, as he faces a host of legal problems stemming from assault charges involving his wife from earlier in the year.

Pierce had 436 rushing yards and two touchdowns, averaging 2.9 yards per carry for a Ravens squad that finished 30th in rushing offense.

The first full-team practice in training camp is Thursday.
