Buffalo Bills wide receiver Sammy Watkins left the team's final preseason game Thursday night against the Detroit Lions with an injury to his ribs, the team said. He will not return.

Watkins was playing for the first time since originally bruising his ribs in an Aug. 16 game against the Pittsburgh Steelers. It took only two Bills offensive series — and one hit — for Watkins to suffer another injury to his ribs. In the first quarter, Bills quarterback EJ Manuel was off target on a pass to Watkins, who was subsequently hit by Lions linebacker Ashlee Palmer.

Watkins eventually walked to the Bills' sideline before heading to the locker room. The Bills originally listed him as questionable before downgrading him to out.

The Bills traded up to draft Watkins, the receiver out of Clemson, in the 2014 NFL draft. To get the No. 4 pick, the Bills traded their first-round picks in 2014 and 2015.
