The NFL has fined Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger for wearing an Apple Watch on the sideline during Monday night's game against the Bengals, ESPN's Adam Schefter reported on Sunday.

According to Schefter, Roethlisberger violated the league's uniform rules by wearing an electronic device that transmits messaging and was penalized with a $5,000 fine as a result. The Steelers' quarterback is reportedly "livid" about the fine and will appeal it.

Roethlisberger is arguing that he never received any advance warning that he could be violating a rule before getting the fine letter. According to Schefter, Roethlisberger didn't even realize he was wearing the device.

Monday night was Roethlisberger's first appearance on the Steelers' sideline after undergoing surgery on his right elbow in September.

The Steelers (1-3) play the Ravens (2-2) on Sunday at 1 p.m. ET.
