Toronto Maple Leafs center Daniel Winnik was taken off the ice on a stretcher after hitting his head on the ice during a fall in Toronto's game against the Colorado Avalanche.

Winnik's injury occurred less than a minute into the game when he collided with Colorado defenseman Jan Hejda. The collision led him to fall awkwardly on his upper back, and he lay motionless on the ice for several minutes before being taken off on a stretcher. When he was taken off the ice, he did appear to be moving his hands.

The Maple Leafs said he was alert and moving after leaving the ice, and he was being evaluated further Wednesday night by the team's medical staff.
