UNC's Tyler Zeller Named ACC Player Of The Year

North Carolina University big man Tyler Zeller has been named the Atlantic Coast Conference’s Player of the Year, according to an official release from the conference website.

“It’s a very special honor, something you dream about when you are a young player,” Zeller said. “I am so proud to know that, as a result, my jersey will go in the rafters (at the Smith Center), which is another great honor. You look up there and see the names of the Tar Heels who came before you and you know that it’s a tremendous honor that my jersey will be up there with them.”

Zeller became the 13th Tar Heel in school history to earn the award. This season he has averged 16.3 points, and 9.3 rebounds for North Carolina, who earlier this week claimed the regular season ACC Championship with a 14-2 conference record.

In total, Zeller received 45 of 62 votes for the award. Mike Scott from the University of Virginia received 14 votes for the award. His teammates, Harrison Barnes and John Henson, received the remaining votes.
