The San Francisco 49ers activated wide receiver Mario Manningham from the physically unable to perform list Monday and he is expected to make his season debut Sunday against the Carolina Panthers, the team announced.

Manningham injured his knee last December and has not played since.  He returned to practice three weeks ago and his activation will help the 49ers passing attack.

The Niners ranks last in the NFL in passing yards per game (189.9 yards per game).  The team has won five games in a row because they ranked first in the league in rushing.

Manningham was the team's second-leading receiver last season behind Michael Crabtree. Crabtree is still out recovering from a torn Achilles tendon. He is expected to be back in a month.
