The similarity between New York Jets rookie quarterback Geno Smith and veteran Mark Sanchez's statistics as rookies are startling.

Sanchez, who is out for the season with an injured shoulder, completed 53.8 percent of his passes as a rookie in 2009, while Smith has completed 56.3 percent.

They both turned the ball over at alarming rates: Sanchez threw 12 touchdowns and 20 interceptions and lost three fumbles his first year; Smith has thrown eight touchdowns and 16 interceptions and has lost four fumbles through 10 games.

Still, Smith doesn't want to hear about any talk comparing him to the injured Sanchez.

“No, I’m not Mark,” Smith said to “I don’t think it’s fair to compare his season to mine. It’s two different seasons, two different guys, two different players, two different styles, two different systems. I know you guys want to compare every single thing, but it doesn’t make a difference.”
