California Chrome wins 2014 Preakness Stakes

California Chrome has won the first two legs of the Triple Crown after taking the Preakness Stakes on Saturday. The colt ran the 1 3/16th-mile course in 1:54.84.
He can become the first horse to win the Triple Crown since Affirmed in 1978 and the 12th ever in three weeks at the Belmont Stakes. He was a big favorite on Saturday at 3-5 and will likely be just as heavily favored at Belmont.
Ride on Curlin was second and Social Inclusion finished third.
California Chrome, which has won six straight races, battled a mild cough and blister on his throat a couple days before the race, but was deemed healthy by trainer Art Sherman on Friday.
