Rockies reliever Nick Masset suspended three games for throwing at Braves' Evan Gattis

Rockies reliever Nick Masset was suspended three games and fined an undisclosed amount for throwing at Braves catcher Evan Gattis in the ninth inning of Colorado's 10-3 win on Thursday, the league announced on Tuesday.
Masset, a 32-year-old who missed the last two seasons due to injuries, was one of four ejections in the game by home-plate umpire Jordan Baker, including manager Walt Weiss, bench coach Tom Runnells and Braves reliever David Carpenter, who was also fined. Carpenter went on the DL with a right biceps strain on Tuesday.

"I was definitely a little surprised," Masset said of the ejection. "I wasn't really aware of what was going to happen. Coming in, I felt like there was going to be a fine. It was my first time being ejected, especially for this type of situation. I don't necessarily agree with the discipline, actually, but I'm just going to take it and do my due diligence."
Masset didn't appeal the suspension, so he began serving it on Tuesday and will be eligible to return on Saturday.
Masset was suspended because each team was issued a warning after Carptenter hit Corey Dickerson an inning before, the MLB said. His teammates high-fived him as he left the field.
"That was kind of the way the game went," Masset said. "I don't have a whole lot of comment on it. We've already moved on.
"People want to talk about the high-fives and that, coming in the dugout. They were high-fiving me because I got two outs and we were winning the ballgame. I don't think it had anything to do with, 'Way to hit him,' or something like that. We played a great game that day."
Masset is 1-0 with a 4.00 ERA in 20 games this season, and is 17-14 with a 3.79 ERA in his seven MLB seasons with the Rangers, White Sox, Reds and Rockies.
