Matheus Cunha Injury: Progress, Potential Return Date for Man Utd Star

Manchester United’s crucial and much-needed 3–2 win over Burnley before the international break was a rollercoaster of emotions.
The Red Devils twice surrendered the lead despite dominating proceedings but eventually ran out victorious thanks to Bruno Fernandes’s 97th-minute penalty. Unlike in the previous match against Fulham, the Portuguese slotted home his spot kick to spare United’s blushes.
After the dismal defeat to Grimsby Town in the Carabao Cup, overcoming newly-promoted Burnley was essential, and the outpouring of emotion from United players at the end of the match suggested as much.
However, it wasn’t all good news for United at Old Trafford. Matheus Cunha, their £62.5 million summer signing, was forced off in the first half due to injury, leaving Ruben Amorim fearing the worst.
Here’s the latest injury news regarding the Brazilian forward.
When Will Matheus Cunha Return From Injury?
Cunha lasted just half-an-hour in United’s win over Burnley before being withdrawn with an apparent hamstring injury. He marched straight down the tunnel to receive treatment and was swiftly joined by Mason Mount, who also suffered another fitness setback against the Clarets.
Speaking after the match, Amorim couldn’t shed much light on injuries to Cunha and Mount admitting: “It was hard to lose Cunha and Mount, because Mount played 30 minutes with an injury. I’m concerned about that, because they are so important for us. We will see.”
He later added: “I don’t know [how they are], I don’t know. We will check them. We need those guys really bad to be really competitive.”
Manchester Evening News reported that Cunha was “spotted leaving Old Trafford walking freely” after the duel with Burnley, perhaps hinting at a less severe issue for the summer recruit—although
he was still forced to withdraw from the Brazil squad for September internationals against Chile and Bolivia.
However, Cunha has taken to Instagram to issue an update on his injury Alongside a picture of the Old Trafford crowd, he wrote: “What an incredible environment, it’s great to be here. I’ll be back soon, always with joy and gratitude. Thanks for all the messages.”
What “soon” means in regards to Cunha’s injury is unclear but it suggests that his issue is not serious. He will be eager to feature in United’s first match after the international period as the Red Devils travel to Manchester City for the first derby of the season.
