Michigan State opens its Big Ten schedule at home against Purdue, riding a three-game losing streak

Purdue (7-1) bounced back from its first loss with back-to-back wins. On Monday, the Boilermakers open their Big Ten schedule at the Breslin Center in East Lansing, Michigan, against Michigan State (6-3). The Spartans have lost three straight games after a 6-0 start. Lasha Petree is Purdue's top scorer at 18.3 points per game while Jeanae Terry gets 9.3 rebounds and 8.3 assists. For Michigan State, Kamaria McDaniel averages 14.3 points while Matilda Ekh gets 11.9. Katie Gearlds is in her second year coaching the Boilermakers and is 23-15. Suzy Merchant has led the Spartans since 2007 and is 317-176 in her 16th season.

Purdue hosted Syracuse in the ACC/Big Ten Challenge on Wednesday night and came away with an 87-78 win. The Boilers led by 18 at the half and were never threatened late. Petree finished with 31 points in 29 minutes while Jayla Smith scored 12 off the bench.

On Thursday, Michigan State played its ACC/Big Ten Challenge matchup and trailed visiting Georgia Tech by eight with 2:42 to play. In the final 14 seconds, the Spartans got two looks from 3-point range for the tie but misfired and took a 66-63 loss. McDaniel had 26 points, Ekh finished with 14 points and eight rebounds and DeeDee Hagemann dished out seven assists.

The Boilermakers hold a 43-37 lead in the all-time series. Purdue won at East Lansing on Jan. 9 before losing to the Spartans in the Big Ten tournament on March 3.
