This season McIlroy has built out his first place lead on the DP World Tour with eight Top 12 finishes in eight tournaments played. He has played as well as he has over his career with a third FedEx Cup Championship on the PGA Tour and angling towards another win on the DP World Tour.

Also in action is second ranked Matt Fitzpatrick, Thomas Pieters, Shane Lowry, Ryan Fox, Adrian Meronk and Thriston Lawrence, who are all in the Top 10.

The field is set for a huge tournament this week with the best players in the world all converging in Scotland. Last year this tournament was won by Danny Willett.
