The first round of the 2022 Alfred Dunhill Links Championship saw some incredible individual rounds with Romain Langesque in the lead at 11-under-par and Fredric Laxroix at 10-under-par. The top golfers on the DP World Tour are not at the top of the leaderboard after one round, but part of what makes golfers like Rory McIlroy, Matt Fitzpatrick and Thomas Pieters dangerous is their ability to weather the storm and play consistently regardless of their first round start. All three of them have a hole to dig out of, but not due to bad play on their part, rather terrific play from the leaders entering today’s second round.

McIlroy has a lot of ground to make up in the second round after a first round 68, which put him seven strokes off the lead.
In the first round McIlroy shot an even par on the front nine with two birdies and two bogeys, then found his groove with four birdies and a clean scorecard on the back nine.
The leaders after the first round absolutely crushed the course with Langesque finishing with eight birdies, two eagles and just one bogey for the round.
He started off the day with seven positive holes on the front nine, including a birdie or an eagle on six straight holes between the third and ninth. It was the best round of the Frenchman’s career by two strokes.
