Through one round at the Sanderson Farms Championship, there is a two-way tie at the top with Davis Riley and Will Gordon finishing with a 66 to finish six under par. They hold a one-stroke lead over the field. Entering the tournament, Sam Burns was the story coming off a strong 2021-2022 season, a terrific performance at the President’s Cup last week and as the defending champion on this course. He wrapped up the first round with a 70 to sit four strokes behind the leaders with some work to do today to catch up and close the gap.

The field felt out the course in the first round without a golfer taking control of the leaderboard or the tournament so far:
Riley had a terrific first round with a clean scorecard, six birdies and zero bogeys for the day. He started off strong with four birdies on the front nine, which could be a good sign for him to finish today strong.
He is tied with Gordon who had seven birdies and one bogey, really closing out strong with four birdies on the back nine, where he starts today.
Also in the hunt are seven more golfers tied at five under par led by Mark Hubbard, Christiaan Bezuidenhout, Thomas Detry and three others. The second round will have a lot to say about who wins this week with the cut line established and 36 holes in for these golfers to build a rhythm heading into the weekend.
