Game one was back and forth almost every inning. It mostly consisted of Portland scoring a lot of runs and then the Patriots not backing down and responding. Somerset tied it in the bottom of the ninth. Each team scored in the 10th and 11th inning, but the Sea Dogs scored two in the 11th to win the game.
The win was even more important for Portland because it brings them within one win to secure a spot in the Eastern League Playoffs. If the Sea Dogs earn a spot they will play Somerset in a rematch in the first round of the playoffs next week.
Today's starters will try to keep the offense more in check. Portland will start righty Brian Van Belle, who has a 6-4 record with a 4.58 ERA. Somerset will counter with right-hander Randy Vasquez who is 2-6 but has a 3.75 ERA. Can the Sea Dogs join the Patriots in the playoffs with a win tonight?
