Heading into Tuesday, the Cardinals had won seven games in a row. The Rockies put an end to that with a 16-run, 22-hit performance in a 16-5 win.
Wednesday, the Cardinals had an offensive explosion of their own. They jumped out to a 5-0 lead in the top of the first inning and ended up scoring nine runs on 18 hits. Albert Pujols turned back the clock, going four-for-five with two RBIs and two runs scored and came up a triple shy of the cycle.
That win helped the Cardinals stay in first place in the National League Central. St. Louis is currently just a game up on the Milwaukee Brewers in the division. Those two teams go head-to-head for three games starting on Friday.
As the Cardinals look to build more momentum heading into that game, they'll send righty Dakota Hudson to the mound. He'll be opposed by Colorado righty German Marquez.
