The A's are coming off a series split against the Texas Rangers. They lost the first game 8-7, but then the Athletics won 8-7 in the second game of a quick two-game series. The Rangers had a chance to put the game away, but then Corey Seager misplayed a grounder that should have ended the game. The A's didn't take it for granted and rallied to score two runs in the ninth to win.
The Astros didn't need nearly as much offense to beat the Tigers. Houston won 2-1 on the merits of a great start by Cristian Javier, who only gave up two hits in six innings. They'll try to get a similar performance out of today's starter Lance McCullers Jr. He has missed much of the season, but has been great in his return, going 3-1 with a 2.20 ERA. The A's will start James Kaprielian, who has a 3-9 record and a 4.79 ERA.
