After winning seven of eight games to propel themselves back into the Wild Card chase, the Philadelphia Phillies start this series on a four-game losing streak having been swept by the Atlanta Braves over the weekend. Toronto leads the American League Wild Card standings going 13-5 since September 2nd with series wins over Tampa Bay and Baltimore last week. Tonight they kick off a critical two-game series north of the border as the regular season nears its end. Ross Stripling (8-4. 2.94 ERA) gets the start for Toronto and is looking for his third win in his last four starts and has been dominant since returning from the Injured List with a hip issue that sidelined him for the first half of August.

Stripling is 3-1 since coming back and has struck out 35 batters compared to just five walks.

Stripling has surrendered a home run in each of his last four starts including a pair in his lone loss since his return from the IL.

The Phillies will counter with veteran Kyle Gibson (10-6, 4.45 ERA) who has not seen the seventh inning of any of his last three starts. Gibson’s 8.53 ERA in September is vastly different than his stellar August where he went 3-1 with a 2.30 ERA in five starts.

Phillies left fielder Kyle Schwarber leads the National League with 39 home runs and has two in his last four games.

The Blue Jays took the first two games against the Phillies in mid-July.
