The Atlanta Braves (93-55) on Tuesday became the third National League team to punch their postseason ticket by beating the Washington Nationals (51-97) at Truist Park in suburban Atlanta. On Wednesday, the Braves can complete a series sweep of Washington before heading to Philadelphia to open a seven-game road trip with the Phillies. Atlanta is one game behind the New York Mets in the NL East and has won five straight games and six of its last seven. The Braves are 11-and-a-half games ahead of the San Diego Padres for the top NL wild-card spot, as well. The Nationals have lost three in a row and eight of their last 10 games.

On Tuesday night, Travis d'Arnaud got Atlanta on the board with a two-run homer in the fourth and Dansby Swanson's solo shot in the eighth proved to be valuable insurance in the Braves' 3-2 win. Washington struck out 14 times in the loss while Atlanta committed three errors.
In Wednesday's matinee, the Braves will give the ball to rookie Bryce Elder. The right-hander is 1-3 in seven appearances, six of them starts, with a 3.67 ERA and 1.369 WHIP. The 23-year-old last started on Sept. 3 against the Marlins and tossed six shutout innings.
Right-hander Paolo Espino heads to the bump for the Nationals. The 35-year-old has made 39 appearances and 16 starts and is 0-7 with a 4.24 ERA and 1.317 WHIP in 104 innings. Espino last started on Sept. 6 and last worked on Friday, throwing a scoreless seventh inning in a win over the Marlins.
