William Byron can start the road to recovery from the 100-point penalty the Hendrick Motorsports driver was handed after his win at Phoenix two weeks ago. Byron won the pole position for Sunday's NASCAR Cup Series EchoPark Automotive Grand Prix at Circuit of the Americas in Austin, Texas. He is the only multiple-race winner so far this season after going back-to-back at Las Vegas and Phoenix earlier this month. Tyler Reddick starts on the outside of the front row, with Austin Cindric and Jordan Taylor on the second and Daniel Suárez and Alex Bowman on row three. A.J. Allmendinger, Erik Jones, Kyle Busch and Noah Gragson round out the top 10.

This is the third year NASCAR's top series has run at COTA, a 3.426-mile asphalt road course. The 68-lap race covers 233 miles, with stages one and two set at 15 laps each and the final stage encompassing the remaining 38 laps. Ross Chastain won last year's race in controversial fashion and will start 12th on Sunday.
Defending NASCAR Cup champion Joey Logano won last week in Atlanta and has a one-point lead over Christopher Bell in the driver standings. Chastain is five points back, followed by Ryan Blaney (16 points behind) and Brad Keselowski (trailing by 17 points).
In addition to Byron and Logano, Ricky Stenhouse Jr. and Kyle Busch have race wins and are on course to make the playoffs this fall.
