They beat the defending champions and hated rival Colorado Avalanche in back-to-back games to open the preseason. The Wild followed that up with a dominating 5-2 win over the Dallas Stars. Minnesota is trying to build on something more this season. They've made the playoffs in nine of the past 10 seasons. However, in the last six playoff appearances, they have not won a series.

The Blackhawks have a different problem right now. After being arguably the team of the last decade, they are trying to get back to the playoffs for the first time since 2020. They've missed the postseason in four of the last five seasons.
They've split games with the Detroit Red Wings in their last two exhibitions. They lost 3-0 and subsequently made their first roster cuts. We'll get a better look today at how this roster is going to look and gel come opening night.
